Biography 1990 In April the band was formed by Andreas Jismark in Tranås, Sweden. The band went through different constellations and wasn´t really what it was becoming. The only part in common is Andreas and the band´s name. 1991 Sara Gunnarsson joins the band on backing vocals, but within a year she becomes the lead singer. TAT is still under construction, recording demoes, playing in the hometown and nearby. 1992 Now the pieces really starts to fall into place. The first "real" constant line up of the band is; Andreas -Guitar and keyboards, Sara -vocals, Jens Hellqvist -Guitar and programming, Jesper Eng -bassguitar. 1993 The April Tears spends most of this year recording what was meant to be a debut album. It all ended up as an e.p -"Cellarbird". One of the outtakes -"Searching for the sun" became an extra track on the 1996 single "Sing Lee". 1994 Jesper Eng leaves the band in order to focus on studies. The three others releases "Cellarbird" on Memento Materia. The band starts to use friends as livemembers. In the end of the year they´d become the new drummer -Fredrik Käll- and the new bassguitarist -Christian Berg- of the band. 1995 "Strange Paradise" was recorded and released. During a small tour after the album, the bandmembers wasn´t going in the same direction and it ended the career for Jens and Fredrik as members of the April tears. In November the band had a new drummer, Torbjörn Söderman. And a man that had worked with TAT for a while as Shooting Star would soon become Jimmy Monell and the programmer in the band. 1996 In January the first track of "Strange Paradise" - "Sing Lee"- was released as a single. In February and March the band starts to record their second album, "Eyes Cold Kisses" with british electroband Mesh as producers in Bristol, U.K. This album was supposed to be released 1996 but when the album was mixed and ready for pressing something came up. The band decided to leave Memento Materia for Jimmy Fun Music, a publishing company. This would mean that the album had to be postponed and re-recorded but TAT felt that it was necessary for the development of their music and it´s caliber. 1997 Jimmy Monell joins as a full time member. TAT records new demoes which leads to a second recording of the "Eyes Cold Kisses" album. This round with producer Ilbert and programmer Charlie Storm in PUK Studios in Denmark, in Music-a-Matic in Gothenburg and mixing it in ABBA Benny´s Mono studios. The result was great, but since the band had recorded it very expensively without a new record deal a BIG problem occured. The companies that wanted to sign TAT didn´t really have the same ideas as the group. There were all kinds og difficulties you can imagine in the negotiations and the would go on into..... 1998 The black year. No deal closes. The band´s not really existing, to this day it´s pretty unbelievable they didn´t split. 1999 In the spring Jimmy gets a phonecall from Andreas saying; "Let´s give this one last shot". He had written a line of new songs - "Model, Actress, Whatever", "Medicine", "Hong Kong" and "Clone Elvis". The band "regroups" and the new songs + the best tracks of "ECK" -"Hardcoming", "Heart Shut Down" and "All I Want is You" finally fix a deal. The April Tears sign with Telstar Records and starts to record a new album in the fall with Christoffer Lundqvist at his Aerosol Grey Machine studio in the south of Sweden. 2000 The band keep returning to Christoffer and at the end of the year a new album was finally recorded. In October a first single, "Model, Actress, Whatever" was released from it. 2001 "Consume Desire" preparations continue. The band plays over 25 gigs in Sweden. The year also saw the release of two singles , "Seventeen" and "Hardcoming". The latter released on EDEL records because Telstar closed down their Scandinavian office in the early summer. This put further delays on the album that was supposed to be released in 1)February 2)May 3)August.........but 2002, January 21st sees the release of an album that has been awaited for so many years................. Also after the summer Christian Berg quit the band. Yet another bassguitarist stepped in -Mattias Svensson.
