September 2001: INDOCHINE

There is no music that can make feel as when I listen to the french band Indochine. The happy, almost punky, tunes spiced with delicate cowboy guitars, percussion and keyboards inspired by Asian music and culture -and then singing all it french makes the band totally unique. Nothing can ever sound like Indochine.

A few years back when I was temporarily living in London, I lived in an apartment that had a bathroom where the stereo was turned on once you switched the lights. Every morning shower I listened to tracks from "LŽaventurier" to get myself in a good mood for the day.

Indochine had their big years in 1984-85 but have since then been continuing releasing albums that have had minor success apart from in their homecountry. "Kao Bang" and "Canary Bay" are classics for everyone, like me, that discovered the band in the era of Alphaville and Howard Jones.

The best way to get to know Indochine is to buy the albums "Le Peril Jaune" and "3me sexe" or the compilation cd "Unita".

The songs that shines up the fall for me is:

"LŽaventurier" and "Dizzidence Politik" from "LŽaventurier"
"Le secheresse de Mecong", "Razzia", "Miss Paramount" from "Le Peril Jaune"
"3me Sexe" and "Canary Bay" from "3me Sexe"
